Technical Project Description

This collective research project addressed the question whether mass customisation and personalisation (MCP) paradigm can provide an answer for the ever increasing competition and related market share loss of companies active in the carpet, the upholstery or the technical textile market. The project aimed at exploring MCP for the textile industry and identified bottlenecks in processes, products and supporting ICT. In order to understand the processes and the organisation of companies the consortium performed interviews with textile companies, up- and downstream companies and end-users. The consortium also in parallel studied MCP approaches of other sectors. Based on this information the consortium developed scenarios which were the basis for a roadmap, accompanied by a feasibility and gap analysis, for the technology development necessities supporting MCP. The consortium was also committed to disseminate the results of the research to a large group of companies and in this way ensure exploitation of the results in the European textile industry.
